c.1929 Buffalo Toy & Tool Works, No.261 Mechanical Fliver Bug in Original Box

A flivver (spelled with two v's) was "a small, cheap, old automobile, c.1910)". Buffalo Toy & Tool Works, Buffalo, N.Y. produced this little one-man steel litho mechanical Fliver Bug (spelled with one "v"). It's in near mint to mint condition and comes complete with its original box.

A simple toy, it's obviously oblong, lithoed cherry red with a single yellow chassis plate which covers the entire underside. It has an embossed double sided driver lithoed teal green and a chrome windshield frame. It was not originally produced with an actual windshield. It has three wooden wheels; all of different size. The large one on the right is connected directly to the clockwork motor and provide the power. The smallest rear wheel is centered in a small housing. It too is connected to the motor and turns randomly left or right. The front left medium sized wheel is loose to insure that the Bug keeps moving. It has an attached cast iron key.

The box is a simple text only design which includes the name of the toy, manufacturer, address, and that great Buffalo logo on the endflaps.

Size: 6½" long and 3½" at its widest.
